Many websites host video that you can watch from a webpage, and some of them provide download links for the clips. However, that’s not always possible, as in the case of streaming content, so other methods are necessary if you want to have them in your disk. WM Capture can be used to record online video directly from the screen as it’s being played. Besides, it can perform other types of screen captures, as full-screen webminars and games.
The application has an easy-to-use interface, and you even get tips in tutorial fashion. A simple set of buttons allows starting, pausing and stopping the recording as well as taking snaphots and opening the target folder. Moreover, you can program hotkeys to make the operation more fluid. Before initiating a capture, it’s always necessary to mark the area with a rectangle.
The tool supports a background mode, which means that the video being recorded doesn’t need to be visible. Besides, this mode is supposed to improve the speed and the quality of the capture. Various web browsers support this mode, especially Chrome, Firefox and Opera, but the developers alert it may not work with Internet Explorer some times.
All in all, WM Capture solves the problem of capturing online video that cannot be downloaded from a hyperlink. It’s also effective to record other types of sources. Unfortunately, it seems to me that the program is very demanding in terms of CPU capacity. Besides, it lags behind other similar programs as to available features.
